With the biblical philosophy of education presented in his book, Kingdom Education, as a foundation, Dr. Schultz presents this DVD-based workshop to teachers, parents, and church leaders. It is designed to address the issue of education biblically so that the home, church and school are equipped to educate future generations to know, serve and glorify God in their lives. Participants will be instructed on the culture war that is targeting our children and how God desires us to educate our children so that they will think and act from a biblical worldview.
Topics include: today’s culture war, the impact of education on the culture war, finding the purpose of education, God’s instructions on how to educate our children and the end result of all education.
• Over 6 hours of DVD-driven instruction (14 sessions)
• Leader’s Guide with discussion topics
• Reproducible Listening Guide
• Complete PowerPoint presentation including personal notes in two formats
• Comprehensive list of resources
• 7 DVDs
The introduction is designed to set the stage for the entire workshop. It lays out the purpose of the workshop as an effort to address the issue of education biblically. This is very much needed in today’s postmodern, secular society. The foundation Scripture used in this session is Colossians 2:4, 8.
Session 1: Today’s Culture War: Understanding the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Next Generation
Session 1 describes the culture war that every person is engaged in today. We must understand this war if we are going to be able to help future generations know truth and be set free from false ideas/philosophies/worldviews that bombard their lives continuously.
Session 2: Today’s Culture War: Understanding the Current State of the War
In this session information will be presented showing the current state that we find ourselves in today’s culture war. Much of the material is taken from the work of Christian Smith and his National Study on Youth and Religion.
When one hears about where we are in this battle for the hearts and minds of the next generation, we should become concerned and more determined than ever to engage ourselves in the war. It will take a united effort by the home, church and school if we are going to be successful in turning the tide in our favor.
Session 3: The Impact of Education: A Major Influence in Today’s Culture War
This session highlights the powerful influence that education has on the development of one’s beliefs and ideas. Throughout the history of man, people have seen and used education to shape the worldview of others. If Christians are going to successfully engage in today’s culture war, they must understand the impact education has in the war of ideas.
Session 4: Addressing the Issue of Education Biblically: Discovering the Purpose of Education (Part 1)
This is a very short session. The group is given three Scriptures to study. Then they are asked to answer three questions related to these verses. This exercise can be done in a short time period and combined with the next session. Or the two sessions can be done separately.
Session 5: Addressing the issue of Education Biblically: Discovering the Purpose of Education (Part 2)
As the participants begin this session, they will be taken on a helicopter tour through Scripture. At each stop some important truths will be studied that will help them discover the ultimate purpose behind everything that exists. This will lead them to understand the purpose behind education. At the end of this session you will view a video clip that supports the key concepts presented in this session.
Session 6: Addressing the Issue of Education Biblically: Discovering the Purpose of Education (Part 3)
The second part of our helicopter tour of Scripture leads us to discover the loss of purpose, the rebirth of purpose and the evidence of purpose. This is an exciting session when we will learn the true meaning of eternal life and how this restores our purpose for our existence.
Session 7: Addressing the Issue of Education Biblically: God’s Glory in Conflict
In this session we will present material that will demonstrate how the American Dream stands in conflict with God’s glory. This is seen in our homes and even in our churches. It is very influential in the arena of education. If we don’t address this conflict, we will not be successful in fulfilling God’s plan for educating future generations.
Session 8: Addressing the Issue of Education Biblically: Applying God’s Ultimate Purpose for Creation to Education
Once we understand God’s ultimate purpose for everything that exists, we can then begin to grasp the ultimate purpose that should drive all education. In this session we will apply what we have learned about ultimate purpose to the area of education.
How do you define education? Why is one’s philosophy of education so important? What is kingdom education? These are three of several questions that will be addressed in this session. We will begin to see the importance of developing a “biblical” philosophy of education.
Session 9: Ten Biblical Principles of Kingdom Education: God’s Directions for Educating Future Generations (Part 1)
This session begins to present ten biblical principles on how God wants us to educate our children and youth. These principles are taken from the book, Kingdom Education: God’s Plan for Educating Future Generations.
We will look at the first two principles in this session. These two principles are very important because they demonstrate how parents have the God-given responsibility for educating their children. If we do not understand these two principles, the others will be of little consequence.
Session 10: Ten Biblical Principles of Kingdom Education: God’s Directions for Educating Future Generations (Part 2)
This session continues our discussion about the 10 biblical principles found in kingdom education. This session will deal with the goals of true biblically based education, the role of the Bible in education, the preeminence of Christ in the educational process and what we must protect our children from when it comes to education.
Session 11: Ten Biblical Principles of Kingdom Education: God’s Directions for Educating Future Generations (Part 3)
In this session we will complete our study of the 10 principles that God sets down in His Word that are to guide us in the education of our children. This session deals with the influence of the teacher, the end result of education, how education must lead to wisdom and understanding, and how it must include an eternal perspective.
The second half of this session addresses the arguments that I encounter for why Christians don’t follow these biblical principles. The salt and light argument is looked at as well as the arguments that it is only about academics, that one can’t afford it and that the parents survived secular education.
Session 12: Worldview Integration: The End Result of All Education
This session will present the concept that worldview integration is the end result of all education. One cannot guarantee that all students will obtain the same academic, physical or fine arts achievement. However, every student will walk away from the educational process with a belief system or worldview. The worldview that the student will develop will be patterned after the worldview of the teachers that he/she has.
Session 13: Final Challenge: A Call to Kingdom Education
This session presents a final challenge to be a godly leader and embrace kingdom education in all aspects of education. God gives a teacher students to teach and this carries with it a very important stewardship responsibility. It is critical that we follow the biblical principles that God’s Word presents to us as to how we are to educate future generations. We must be fully committed to these principles if we are going to fulfill God’s plan for education future generations. Some key concepts will be taken from Jeremiah and Ezra that we must consider as we attempt to address the issue of education biblically.
